Grand Theft Auto VI is getting closer, and for players planning to explore Vice City from day one, there is now an important decision to make: which version of GTA 6 should you buy?
GTA 6 pre-orders are officially open ahead of the game’s November 19, 2026 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar is offering two main choices: the Standard Edition and the more expensive Ultimate Edition.
The Standard Edition gives you the game and applicable pre-order bonuses, while the Ultimate Edition adds a substantial collection of vehicles, weapons, clothing, customization options and other extras.
But are those extras actually worth paying more for?
In this GTA 6 pre-order guide, we’ll compare the Standard and Ultimate editions, explain the bonuses and prices, and help you decide which version makes the most sense for you.
GTA 6 release date and platforms
Rockstar currently lists November 19, 2026 as the official GTA 6 release date.
GTA 6 is also one of the biggest releases still to come this year, alongside several other major titles featured in our guide to the biggest upcoming games of 2026.
At launch, the confirmed platforms are:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
Rockstar’s current GTA VI page does not list PC as a launch platform.
That’s particularly important if you’re a PC gamer. There is currently no reason to buy a console version unless you actually intend to play GTA 6 on that console.

How much does GTA 6 cost?
There are two editions to choose between.

That makes the Ultimate Edition £20/$20 more expensive than Standard.
The question, therefore, isn’t whether Ultimate costs dramatically more. It’s whether the extra content is worth another £20/$20 to you.
What do you get with the GTA 6 Standard Edition?
The Standard Edition is the simplest option.
You’re buying Grand Theft Auto VI itself, without paying extra for the Ultimate Edition collection.
If your main priority is experiencing Jason and Lucia’s story and exploring Rockstar’s new version of Vice City and the wider state of Leonida, this is likely to be all you need.
There is another important point: buying Standard doesn’t necessarily lock you into that decision forever.
Rockstar says Standard Edition owners will be able to purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade separately later.
That makes Standard considerably easier to recommend to anyone unsure about the extra content.
You can start with the less expensive edition and decide later whether the Ultimate extras appeal to you.
What do you get for pre-ordering GTA 6?
Rockstar is offering the Vintage Vice City Pack for GTA VI pre-orders and purchases made before November 20, 2026.
The pack includes:
- ’55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage
- Outfits and hairstyles
- An exclusive weapon pattern
Players who pre-order a digital edition also receive one month of GTA+.
That’s worth knowing because these bonuses aren’t a reason by themselves to spend the extra money on Ultimate.
You can get the Vintage Vice City Pack with the Standard Edition too, provided you meet Rockstar’s eligibility period.
What does the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition include?
This is where the comparison becomes much more interesting.
Rockstar describes Ultimate as an exclusive collection of additional content spread throughout Jason and Lucia’s story.
The currently announced Ultimate content includes extras such as:
- ’95 Grotti Cheetah
- Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers
- Personalized Weapon Variants
- Vice City Style
- Jason’s Safehouse Vehicles
- Ganado Retro Build
- Rideout Customs Mod Shop
- Sara’s Unisex Salon
- Shitzu Squalo
- Stock 305 Clothing Store
- ’67 Vapid Dominator Buggy
- Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor
- One-Eyed Willie’s Mod Shop
- Goodtime Gear
- PTT Youngin$ Illegal Goods Store
- Classic Car Collection
Rockstar has also released dozens of official screenshots showing these Ultimate Edition benefits.
So Ultimate isn’t simply a different cover or a couple of cosmetic skins.
There is a meaningful collection of additional vehicles, weapons, stores and customization-related content included.
Is the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition worth the extra £20/$20?
For some players, yes.
If GTA 6 is likely to be one of your most-played games and you enjoy collecting vehicles, customizing characters, modifying cars and exploring as much optional content as possible, £20/$20 isn’t an enormous premium compared with the price of Standard.
The Classic Car Collection, additional vehicles, weapons and extra customization businesses could make Ultimate particularly attractive to players who like exploring everything a GTA game has to offer.
But there’s an equally strong argument for choosing Standard.
The Standard Edition still gives you GTA 6, and Rockstar allows Standard owners to purchase the Ultimate upgrade separately.
That removes much of the pressure to decide immediately.
Who should buy the Standard Edition?
I’d recommend GTA 6 Standard Edition if:
- You mainly want the core GTA 6 experience.
- You’re trying to keep the purchase price down.
- You’re not particularly interested in exclusive vehicles or customization extras.
- You aren’t sure whether you’ll use the Ultimate content.
- You’d rather upgrade later if the extras turn out to be worthwhile.
For most players who simply want to experience GTA 6, Standard is probably the sensible starting point.
You aren’t buying an inferior version of Jason and Lucia’s central adventure simply because you didn’t choose the most expensive edition.
Who should buy the Ultimate Edition?
Ultimate makes more sense if you’re the sort of player who wants as much GTA 6 content as possible from the beginning.
The additional £20/$20 gets you the collection of extra vehicles, weapons, customization options and locations described above.
I’d consider Ultimate if:
- You’re already certain GTA 6 will be one of your major games of 2026 and beyond.
- You enjoy vehicle collecting and customization.
- You don’t want to wonder later whether you’re missing additional content.
- An extra £20/$20 isn’t a significant concern within your gaming budget.
In that situation, Ultimate could provide better value than buying Standard and deciding to upgrade shortly afterwards.
Digital vs physical GTA 6: there’s something important to know
This is one of the easiest details to miss.
Although Rockstar is offering what it calls a physical version, the box does not contain a game disc.
Instead, it contains a download code used to download GTA 6 digitally.
Rockstar says the physical code-in-box version is expected to be available for shipping or collection from November 12, allowing players to preload before launch.
There is currently no physical Ultimate Edition. If you buy the boxed Standard Edition, you can purchase the Ultimate upgrade digitally after redeeming the game’s code.
This is definitely something to consider if you normally buy physical games because you specifically want a disc.
When can you preload GTA 6?
Digital pre-orders can begin preloading GTA 6 from November 12, 2026 at local midnight, one week before release.
The code-in-box version is also being made available from November 12 specifically to support preloading.
Given the scale of modern Rockstar games, being able to download the game before launch could be particularly useful, although Rockstar’s official pages we’ve checked here don’t give us a final download size yet.
So be cautious about any supposed “confirmed GTA 6 file size” you see circulating online unless Rockstar or the platform holders verify it.
Should you pre-order GTA 6 now?
There’s no requirement to pre-order months in advance simply because pre-orders are available.
The strongest incentive currently is the Vintage Vice City Pack, while digital pre-orders also include the free month of GTA+.
If you’re already certain you’ll buy GTA 6 at launch, those bonuses make pre-ordering more attractive.
If you’re undecided, however, there’s little reason to rush purely because of the hype.
You can continue watching Rockstar’s announcements, gameplay footage and other information before deciding which edition deserves your money.
Standard vs Ultimate: our recommendation
For the majority of players, I’d start with the Standard Edition at £69.99/$79.99.
You get GTA 6 itself, you’re eligible for the Vintage Vice City Pack within Rockstar’s stated period, and digital pre-orders also receive the GTA+ offer.
Most importantly, Rockstar says you can upgrade to Ultimate later.
That makes Standard the lower-risk choice.
The Ultimate Edition at £89.99/$99.99 is more compelling for dedicated GTA fans who already know they’ll want the additional cars, weapons, stores, clothing and customization content.
An extra £20/$20 isn’t insignificant, but considering how much additional content Rockstar has listed, Ultimate may prove worthwhile for players expecting to spend hundreds of hours exploring Leonida.
The short answer
Buy Standard if you mainly want GTA 6 and aren’t sure whether you’ll care about the extras.
Buy Ultimate if you’re a committed GTA fan, love vehicles and customization, and know you’ll want as much additional content as possible.
And if you’re unsure?
Standard is the safer choice because you can upgrade later.
