Grand Theft Auto VI isn’t just taking players back to Vice City. Rockstar is building an entire state around it.
The GTA 6 map is set in the fictional state of Leonida, a sprawling setting inspired by Florida that stretches far beyond the neon streets and beaches of Vice City.
Rockstar has already confirmed several very different locations that players will be able to explore, ranging from tropical islands and swampland to faded coastal towns, industrial areas and mountainous wilderness.
So just how big could the GTA 6 map be, and which locations have actually been confirmed?
Here’s our complete guide to every GTA 6 location Rockstar has officially revealed so far.
Where Is GTA 6 Set?
GTA 6 takes place in the fictional American state of Leonida.
At its heart is Vice City, Rockstar’s fictional interpretation of Miami and one of the most famous locations in Grand Theft Auto history.
But GTA 6’s version of Vice City is only part of the new map.
Rockstar describes Leonida as a sunshine state encompassing Vice City and the surrounding regions, and the locations revealed so far show just how varied the world could be.
The story follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos after an apparently straightforward score goes wrong, drawing them into a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida.
That statewide story is important because it suggests players won’t simply remain within Vice City’s urban centre.
Instead, Jason and Lucia’s journey appears likely to take them across numerous parts of Leonida.
What Locations Are Confirmed in GTA 6?
Rockstar has currently revealed six major GTA 6 locations:
Vice City
Leonida Keys
Grassrivers
Port Gellhorn
Ambrosia
Mount Kalaga National Park
These are official Rockstar locations rather than places inferred from leaked maps or fan theories.
There will almost certainly be many smaller neighbourhoods, roads, landmarks and settlements within these regions, but we shouldn’t treat locations Rockstar hasn’t announced as confirmed.
Let’s look at each of the six revealed areas.
Vice City
Vice City is the centrepiece of GTA 6 and the location most players will immediately recognize.
Inspired by Miami, Vice City previously appeared as the setting for 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and later Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
GTA 6 brings the city into the modern era.
Rockstar’s screenshots and trailers show a dense coastal metropolis packed with skyscrapers, beaches, highways, nightlife, hotels, clubs and residential neighbourhoods.
The city’s famous neon-soaked atmosphere remains, but this is clearly a much more ambitious interpretation of Vice City than players explored in earlier GTA games.
Rockstar has also connected several confirmed characters directly to the city.
Boobie Ike, for example, is described as a Vice City legend whose business interests span real estate, a strip club and a recording studio.
Music entrepreneur Dre’Quan Priest is also trying to break into the Vice City music scene through Only Raw Records.
That gives us a glimpse of how GTA 6 could use the city for more than simply driving between missions.
Vice City appears positioned as a living social, entertainment and criminal hub within the wider state.
Leonida Keys
Away from the city, the Leonida Keys offer a very different environment.
The name and geography are clearly reminiscent of the Florida Keys, the chain of tropical islands stretching south from mainland Florida.

Rockstar’s material depicts tropical water, bridges, boats, fishing and a more relaxed coastal lifestyle.
But underneath that idyllic appearance sits another side of Leonida.
The Keys are closely connected to Jason’s background.
Rockstar says Jason ended up in the Keys working for local drug runners after a stint in the Army.
One of those figures is Brian Heder, an old-school drug runner who continues moving product through his boat yard.
Jason is allowed to live at one of Brian’s properties rent-free, provided he helps with local jobs and shakedowns.
That connection suggests the Leonida Keys could be particularly important during the earlier stages of Jason’s story.
Boats may also play an important role here, with the islands and waterways creating a very different way of moving around compared with central Vice City.
Grassrivers
One of GTA 6’s most distinctive environments could be Grassrivers.
This vast wetland region is clearly influenced by Florida’s Everglades.

Rockstar’s imagery depicts swamps, airboats, wildlife and huge stretches of subtropical wilderness.
It’s a dramatic contrast to Vice City’s crowded streets.
The existence of Grassrivers also demonstrates something important about GTA 6’s map: Rockstar isn’t simply creating one enormous urban environment.
Leonida appears designed around different ecosystems and landscapes.
Players could potentially move from dense city streets to isolated wetlands within the same open world.
Wildlife appears to be a major part of the region too.
Alligators have already featured prominently in GTA 6 footage and imagery, and the swamp environment gives Rockstar plenty of opportunities for the strange encounters and unpredictable situations the series is known for.
Port Gellhorn
If Vice City represents the glamorous side of Leonida, Port Gellhorn appears to represent something much rougher around the edges.
Rockstar presents it as a once-popular coastal destination whose glory days have faded.

The imagery surrounding Port Gellhorn shows cheap motels, strip malls, abandoned attractions and a generally more run-down environment than Vice City.
That makes it potentially one of the most interesting locations on the GTA 6 map.
Grand Theft Auto has always been at its best when contrasting wealth with poverty and glamorous locations with places left behind.
Port Gellhorn seems ideally suited to that tradition.
Rather than another polished tourist destination, it appears to offer a grittier view of Leonida.
Its roads, businesses and faded attractions could also provide plenty of opportunities for missions and random encounters away from the main city.
Ambrosia
Ambrosia reveals yet another side of Leonida.
This appears to be an industrial and rural area dominated by agriculture and manufacturing.
Rockstar’s official imagery shows factories, industrial equipment and a community very different from the beaches and skyscrapers of Vice City.
The location helps reinforce the idea that Leonida is intended to feel like an entire state rather than simply a city surrounded by empty countryside.
Ambrosia could provide the kind of industrial backdrop traditionally associated with warehouses, criminal businesses and large-scale missions in Grand Theft Auto.
However, we should be careful not to assume particular missions or activities before Rockstar confirms them.
What we can say is that Ambrosia adds another distinct environment to GTA 6’s increasingly varied world.
Mount Kalaga National Park
Perhaps the biggest surprise among Rockstar’s confirmed locations is Mount Kalaga National Park.
Located in northern Leonida, the park introduces mountains, forests and wilderness into a game many people initially expected to revolve primarily around beaches, cities and Florida-style wetlands.

Rockstar’s imagery shows expansive natural scenery and outdoor recreation.
This could make Mount Kalaga one of the most visually distinctive parts of the GTA 6 map.
It also gives Rockstar an opportunity to create activities and encounters that would make little sense in central Vice City.
The presence of mountainous terrain is particularly interesting because it suggests GTA 6’s world could have considerably more geographical variety than simply a flat recreation of southern Florida.
For players who enjoyed escaping Los Santos and exploring the countryside and mountains in GTA V, Mount Kalaga could become an especially interesting part of Leonida.
How Big Is the GTA 6 Map?
This is one of the biggest questions surrounding the game — and currently one without an official numerical answer.
Rockstar has not announced the exact size of the GTA 6 map.
You’ll find numerous fan-made maps and size comparisons online, some based on trailers, screenshots and other material.
They can be interesting, but they shouldn’t be confused with an official Rockstar map.
What Rockstar has confirmed tells us something more useful.
GTA 6 isn’t restricted to Vice City.
We know the world encompasses multiple distinct regions across Leonida, including urban environments, tropical islands, swamps, industrial areas, coastal towns and mountainous wilderness.
That alone indicates a world with considerable geographical variety.
Rockstar describes GTA VI as the biggest and most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet, although that doesn’t necessarily mean its landmass will simply be a certain percentage larger than GTA V.
A map’s quality also depends on how densely populated it is with activities, interiors, characters and things to discover.
Until Rockstar publishes an official map or dimensions, claims giving an exact GTA 6 map size should therefore be treated cautiously.
Is the GTA 6 Map Bigger Than GTA 5?
We don’t currently have enough official information to answer this definitively.
GTA V’s map includes Los Santos, Blaine County, mountains, desert and extensive surrounding countryside.
GTA 6 clearly contains a similarly diverse collection of environments, but Rockstar hasn’t provided an official side-by-side size comparison.
Fan projects have attempted to estimate GTA 6’s scale using footage and known landmarks, but these remain unofficial estimates.
The safer conclusion is that Rockstar appears to be creating a highly varied open world spanning multiple parts of Leonida, rather than assuming a particular square-mile figure.
We’ll update this guide if Rockstar publishes official map dimensions.
Will GTA 6 Have More Locations Than These?
Almost certainly in the sense of smaller neighbourhoods, landmarks and settlements, but we don’t yet know how many major regions Rockstar intends to formally identify.
The six areas revealed so far shouldn’t necessarily be interpreted as every place in GTA 6.
Vice City alone will contain numerous streets, neighbourhoods and businesses.
The wider state should similarly contain smaller destinations between its major regions.
Rockstar may also reveal additional places before or after launch.
For now, though, the six locations in this guide are the major areas Rockstar has officially highlighted.
That’s why we’re keeping unofficial locations and speculative fan-map names out of the confirmed list.
Can You Travel Between All the GTA 6 Locations?
Rockstar’s presentation strongly indicates these destinations form part of the wider explorable state of Leonida.
Exactly how exploration will work hasn’t been fully detailed, though.
Cars will obviously remain central to Grand Theft Auto, while Rockstar’s footage and screenshots also show motorcycles and boats.
The Keys and Grassrivers in particular could make water travel more important than it was in some previous GTA games.
What we don’t yet know is whether every location will be immediately accessible when the game begins or whether certain areas will become available as the story progresses.
Until Rockstar provides more detail, we shouldn’t assume either approach.
Where Do Jason and Lucia Fit Into the Map?
The geography of Leonida appears closely connected to GTA 6’s characters.
Jason has direct ties to the Leonida Keys, where he has worked for local drug runners and is associated with Brian Heder.
Lucia, meanwhile, has recently emerged from the Leonida Penitentiary and is determined to improve her circumstances.
The pair ultimately become caught in a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state.
That gives Rockstar a natural reason to move them between different parts of the map.

When Can We Explore the GTA 6 Map?
GTA 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.
Rockstar currently lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the launch platforms.
PC players will have to wait for further information because Rockstar hasn’t currently announced a PC version or PC release date.
We’ve covered the situation in detail in our GTA 6 PC release date guide, including Rockstar’s previous PC release history and what has — and hasn’t — actually been confirmed.
GTA 6 is also available to pre-order in Standard and Ultimate Editions.

GTA 6 Map & Locations: What We Know So Far
GTA 6’s return to Vice City may have attracted most of the early attention, but Rockstar’s wider vision for Leonida could prove just as important.
The six major locations confirmed so far are:
Vice City — GTA 6’s neon-soaked coastal metropolis.
Leonida Keys — tropical islands connected to Jason’s criminal past.
Grassrivers — a vast wetland environment inspired by Florida’s swamps.
Port Gellhorn — a faded coastal destination with a rougher atmosphere.
Ambrosia — an industrial and rural part of Leonida.
Mount Kalaga National Park — mountainous wilderness in the north.
Together they suggest GTA 6 will offer far more environmental variety than a simple return to Vice City.
The biggest unknown is still the actual scale of the map.
Rockstar hasn’t published official dimensions, so exact size comparisons and many of the maps circulating online remain speculative.
As Rockstar reveals more about Leonida, we’ll update this guide with new confirmed GTA 6 locations rather than presenting rumours as fact.
For now, one thing is already clear: Vice City is only part of the world Rockstar is building.
